This is the second edition of Nations Cup. What do you think about this competition?
Mainly, I believe this a way of improving communities interaction and this is very healthy for everyone's motivation and to PM in general. Also friendlies were not having to much attention even the home country matches were not having much attention from general users, this way it changed a bit. Finally, this a way of improving a lot U21 managers motivation, competition is competition.
Do you think that the opponents are suited to that you usually planed in the friendly matches?
No. This is the more negative point of this tournament, but anyway I didn't mind a lot. I knew that a team like Faroe Islands would have stronger opponents in this kind of tournament, anyway I believe that although this might be worst for a ranking position it might be a better way of playing qualification.
What do you think about the rule of using only 3U21 players?
I have 1 season as NT manager in Scotland, 3 seasons as U21 manager in Canada, and this is my 3rd season as Faroe Islands manager, I try to use in friendly matches the youngest team I can. Usually I only use U20 players. I'm still considering that option, so I believe this kind of rule is an advantage for everyone. Using only U20 players would be too restrictive, three 21 years old players seems a good number to me.
Your expectations for the Nations Cup?
Even getting a point against Norway will be very difficult. Chile is a team amost out of our league. Malta is a community that I now very well since the beggining. And Norway played us in a friendly last season. Although 0 points is a realistic prospective, I believe we can play for 4 points in this group.
And for the next qualifying rounds?
Faroe finished 4th in last qualification and that was a positive result. The ambition this time is to achieve something similar and get enough points to leave the last pot. This is possible but won't be easy. For a very small community like Faroe's aiming for more than a 4th or maybe a 3rd place is more a dream than reality.
Favorites to win Nations Cup?
It will depend a lot if some teams choose to make some experiences or not, but Turkey. After winning two U21 World in a row they are for sure the favourite team to win any U21 match. But any team in group A can be finalist of this tournament. The other favourite is France. Group B is also a very strong group, but France should do very well there after showing in last U21 that they have one of the best U21 teams now. Finally Brazil can be a surprise coming from outside group A and B.
Something else you want to add?
Congratulations and thanks CurePT for this organization. And good matches and experiences for all the managers involved in the tournament. GO GO Faroe's!!!
